Full Program Timeline
Student Application Period
January 1, 2022 - March 5, 2022
Students can apply to a track of their choice starting from January 1, 2022. Last date to apply is March 5, 2022, but we recommend that interested students apply as early as possible to improve their chances of selection.
Screening Round
January 1, 2022 - March 15, 2022
Student applicants receive a screening assignment based on their applied track. Student applicants on a developer track receive a coding assignment to test their coding and algorithmic skills. Applicants with a strong rating on any coding platform, or applicants having prior experience with GSoC or an equivalent open-source program will be eligible to proceed directly to the next round. Student applicants on a designer track receive a design assignment to test their design thinking and prototyping skills.
Proposal Round
Feb 15, 2022 - April 19, 2022
Students who successfully complete the screening assignment are invited to an exclusive discord server where they are provided with resources to learn about bitcoin, ask questions, and write project proposals based on the project ideas published on the website. See our student guide for more details on how proposal round works. Project ideas will be published on the website by February 15, 2022. All proposals must be submitted by April 19, 2022.
Proposal Review Period
April 19, 2022 - May 1, 2022
Mentors review and select project proposals.
Accepted Students Announced
May 1, 2022
Accepted students are notified of their acceptance into Summer of Bitcoin 2022.
Program Kick-Off and Onboarding
May 9, 2022 - May 23, 2022
Accepted students are paired with their mentors and start planning their projects and milestones. Students go through two weeks of bitcoin or lightning seminars and attend talks on various bitcoin-related topics.
Project Period
May 23, 2022 - Aug 15, 2022
Students work on their Summer of Bitcoin projects.
Evaluations
July 4, 2022 - July 8, 2022
Mentors submit mid-term evaluations of their mentees. Passing students receive the first part of their stipend.
Students Submit Projects
Aug 15, 2022 - Aug 22, 2022
Students submit a final project report including project summaries and link to code submissions or project artifacts.
Mentors Submit Final Evaluations
Aug 22, 2022 - Aug 26, 2022
Mentors review student code submissions or project artifacts and determine if the students have successfully completed their Summer of Bitcoin 2022 projects.
Results Announced
Aug 29, 2022
Students are notified of the pass/fail status of their Summer of Bitcoin 2022 projects. Passing students receive the final part of their stipend and a certificate of completion.

Post Program Completion
Students who perform exceptionally well during the program are offered opportunities for internship or full-time roles with the most cutting-edge bitcoin companies around the world.
